Craps can be quite confusing unless you study its rules and the many kinds of betting first. Basically it is a game where each player throws a pair of dice and sets his or her bet before the throw. The first dice roll is called the Come Out roll. Winning numbers are 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12. If you get 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, you have what is called Point : this allows you to roll again.
There are two (identical) side areas on the Craps table, with the following betting areas: Come and Don't Come bets; Pass and Don't Pass line bets; Odds bet; Place bets and Field bets. The center of the table us reserves for Proposition bets.
Winning/losing plays
Pass Bets / Don't Bets - In a Come Out roll on the Pass bet, the winning role is 7 or 11, while losing numbers are 2, 3, or 12. If you Don't Bet, you win on the reverse numbers i.e. 2 or 3 wins and 7 or 11 loses. Getting a 12 allows you a second roll, called the Don't Bets Tie.
Types of bets
Pass Line Bet - If you get 7 or 11 you have a Natural Win. If you get 2,3 or 12 this is a Natural Loss (or Craps). If you bet only once you have fixed the Point on the Pass Line, this is a Come Bet .
Odds on Pass Line Bet - By rolling a Point , you have the opportunity to make a subsequent bet. If you bet on the Come Bet rather than the Pass Line bet, this is called an Odds on Come Bet . However you can also choose a Don't Come Bet. Here the winning numbers are 2 and 3 and the losing numbers are 7 and 11.
Place Bets - When you determine then Point and then get 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, you have made a Place Bet.
Field Bets - This is the 'everything depends on one roll' bet. You win if you get 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12.
Big Six, Big Eight Bets - You gamble (for 1:1 odds) that the dices will show a 7 before hitting the 6 or 8.
